Alloy 304L is practiced with low carbon version. It is the same grade from an austenitic family having 18/8 chromium and nickel elements. Economically, it is a versatile option for corrosion resistance environments. It is widely used in a wide range of general and local corrosive environments. The grade is dual certified with low carbon chemistry. These are resistive to atmospheric corrosion as well as it can bear oxidizing and reducing environments.
It offers outstanding performance to intergranular attacks even in the welded conditions. It has excellent strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures. It is exposed to the annealing process in nominal cases that turns its structure to non-magnetic. However, it is surpassed from cold working operations to acquire maximum strength and resistivity. Moreover, after this operation, its lattice structure turns to magnetic.
The cold working process is mostly preferred to avoid embrittlement. It can be easily welded and processed by standard shop fabrication process. It is deployed in the temperature 1652-2102 degree F. its nature is ductile and readily formable. This grade will not require post-weld heat treatments.
