About the grade:
SS 310 and 310S both contains approximately 25% of chromium and 20% of nickel that offers high resistance to oxidation and improved resistance to corrosion. Grade 310S is a low carbon version grade that offers some of the good characteristics. The high content of chromium and medium content of nickel that helps in offering best properties even in reducing sulphur atmospheres which contains H2S. They are moderately used in carburization atmospheres such as petrochemical and high heat industries.
Talking about 310 grades, it is not recommended in liquid or aqueous environment because it suffers from thermal shock. The grade is widely used in cryogenic industry applications due to its excellent toughness and low permeability to magnetic. Both the grades cannot be hardened by heat treatment only by cold work.
